I took my first sailing trip with my family on a Barecat charter more than 25 years ago and was hooked on ocean sailing and the Caribbean lifestyle.
I grew up in Fort Worth, Texas (6th generation), learning to sail on Eagle Mountain Lake at the Fort Worth Boat Club’s summer sailing camps. In addition, every summer vacation we took was on a sailboat in the Caribbean. Sailing couldn’t be more in my blood had I been born on a ship. I had many adventures on yacht charters as a youngster (and later on our own boat Larimar, now in the Barecat fleet) – the kind of experiences you don’t get at Disney World or a water park. What could be better than a real-life water ride, right?
My sailing adventures continued through high school and college as I was thinking I was readying myself to enter the corporate world and take my two-week vacations in the islands as the opportunities presented themselves. But as luck would have it in 2013 that tide turned. I sailed right into an opportunity to buy and operate Barecat Charters and I took it. I gave away a house full of stuff, took what I needed, bought a sailboat to live on and Era (Barecat mascot and official greeter) and I headed to our new life in the BVI’s. I work harder and more than I ever have and I love every second. The joy of watching someone sail for the first time and the long-term friendships we have created with our loyal, repeat customers are both priceless.
My goal for your Barecat experience is for you and your family and friends to create memories and adventures you will never forget, make new friends in the islands, introduce old friends to sailing and most of all have a comfortable, safe and worry-free trip in the British Virgin Islands on a Barecat Charter. Whether you choose to captain the boat yourself or take one along with you, we have the right boat for you at the right price. Let’s go sailing!
See you soon-
